Choosing between Gear 4 and Gear 5 Luffy figures is primarily a choice of the version and visual composition you want to own. Compare the actual sculpts rather than assuming every figure of one form will have the same pose, proportions or display requirements. This guide avoids story-event spoilers.
Start with the appearance you want
Look at the exact outfit, expression and body shape in each listing. A title tells you the intended version, but the sculpt determines what you will see on the shelf. Keep the character you enjoy most at the center of the decision rather than choosing whichever transformation is discussed most often online.
If you already own another Luffy, ask whether the new piece adds a different expression or composition that you genuinely want. A different product name is not always a meaningful difference for your display.
Compare the full silhouette
Some Luffy sculpts emphasize a compact, powerful body; others use stretched poses, large effects or a more open silhouette. Evaluate the specific product photos. Check whether the face and hands remain readable against the base and surrounding effects.
For a white or pale sculpt, try a background with enough contrast to separate the outline. For a dark or strongly colored sculpt, check that the clothing and limbs do not disappear against a dark cabinet. These are layout choices, not rankings of the forms.
Watch for different uses of height
A 30 cm statue can devote much of its height to an effect or raised limb. Another can place more of that height in the character's body. Compare the complete dimensions and the body proportions separately if the figure will sit beside other Straw Hat characters.
Ask for maximum width and depth when a pose extends sideways. Do not infer either measurement from total height. Also check which supports and effects are included and whether the supplied arrangement is fixed.
Choose a role for the piece
For a centerpiece, a large composition may be exactly what you want. For an existing character lineup, a more contained silhouette may be easier to integrate. For a desk, the face should remain visible from a seated position and the complete footprint must leave working space.
